Tool Picks Weekly #1: Your vibe-coded app can now talk, search and scrape

· Tool Picks Weekly #1

Hi there,

Welcome to the first Tool Picks Weekly. Each Monday you get a handful of AI tools, each matched to the one job it's best at. No hype rankings, just which tool to reach for and when.

This week's theme came from Lovable's update (below): getting the app built is now the easy part. Here's what to reach for next.

This week's picks

1. Building the app: Lovable
Still the fastest route from idea to a working web app with login and a database, with no setup.
More options: Best AI for vibe coding

2. Pulling data off the web into your app: Firecrawl
One API call gives you clean markdown or structured JSON from a site. Respect each site's terms and robots.txt.
More options: Best AI for web scraping

3. Live answers with sources: Perplexity
Fast answers from the live web with citations you can check. Good for your own research and, now, inside the apps you build.
More options: Best AI for research

4. Handing off the bigger code changes: Claude Code
When a change touches many files, let it work from the terminal, run the tests and keep going until they pass.
More options: Best AI coding agents

5. Putting it online: Vercel
Our top pick for Next.js and React apps (and anything from v0). Push to git and you get a live link, with previews.
More options: Best hosting for AI-built apps

New this week

Lovable adds AI models and tools to the apps you build (Oct 15). You can now put GPT-Live voice conversations, the latest Claude models, Google's Gemini 4 Argon, Gemini Omni video and Lyria music, Perplexity live-web answers, Firecrawl scraping, Parallel web research, and Jev for quick sorting and routing into a Lovable app. Ask for it in chat ("use Perplexity") or let Lovable pick for you. Our take: this is the biggest step yet for building real AI products without writing code, so start with one feature and check what it costs to run. Lovable's announcement

Also shipped: Cursor's cloud agents can now build interactive canvases that you share with a link, and its Environments API is in beta (Oct 16). Cursor changelog
